Blue Midas Blenny... are they real??

Midas Blenny in BLUE??

Yup! that's right.  Ecsenius Midas.   I was in our LFS when I spotted a grayish blenny amongst the bi-color blenny and damsel tank.   It caught my eye even  though the color was a drab greyish mud color ugly blenny.   No wonder, local hobbyist ignored it.   I was observing for a full 20 minutes intrigued ...

Till finally I decided.   I ask the LFS crew to reserved it for me and explain that I'll be coming the following day for it.   I intentionally left it there for this fish was not looking healthy.  I was informed that this fish was already a week old in their tank from their Philippine shipment.

As I arrived home,  I quickly began searching the net to find  a possible ID but failed to see a similar looking blenny till I came across Reef Hot Spot site.   Close but not similar.  The only one thing that gave it away was the yellow spot below it's bluish eye.

Voyager threatens Koralia v/s Tunze

Features
  • 1600 gallons per hour
  • 14 watts
  • CE & UL listed
  • 3 year warranty
  • 360 degree pump rotation
  • Oscillating pump body
  • Support w/ magnets and suction cups
  • Adjustable deflector
  • Water capacity regulator

Now that the Sicce Voyager is out... a looming threat to Koralia emerges. The line of Koralias started the trend on minute, powerful, sleek and magnetically mounted propeller pump which was a direct Hit to hobbyist in recent years. Plagued with stray electric current in some models, incompatibility with third party wave controller and rusting magnet mount , now the Koralia prop market is ebbing.
Here comes a challenger:  the Voyager from Sicce.  A pictorial review was meticulously done by the staff of Reefbuilders;  you may follow this link.    All I thought was "  its just another prop in the market".   I am mistaken.  I was blown away.

KEY LED Aquarium Lightning System prt.II

 from part I

Ko translated all use a single monolithic optoelectronic chip 3W lamp beads, each maintained at 6 cm intervals stars above and the single set of heat dissipation, cooling completely solved the problem.   Ko translation photovoltaic R & D thermal cooling system consists of active and passive cooling (cooling fan), with active cooling system consists of the completion of the overall aluminum radiator (if not open the cooling fan can also be completely does not affect the LED life); passive cooling system composed of groups of quiet fans in high temperature areas to LED lights to provide adequate cooling beads; the other: Ke translation photoelectric first side tooth cooling technology (patent pending), and completely solved the high-power LED thermal problems;

About Color Temperature:
Aquarium Lamps require specific color temperature, both for visual light bluish (color temperature is high), or yellowish (color temperature is low), high-power white LED color temperature can be ordered from 3000K to 15000K.

◆ Efficient import of chips, to ensure the luminous efficiency
◆ low energy consumption, more energy-efficient
◆ no radiation heat, does not affect the water temperature
◆ Water
Single-stars 3W,
luminous blue light, dream aquarium
external power supply, low voltage input
thin the main light, install a wide range of
  flexible control of light effect

Shark Skimmer Put to the TEST!

December 2009,  JNS Shark spotted surfacing  in a turbulent sea of  New Skimmers.   A new breed, or perhaps a high-breed  skimmer sporting the conical shape.   Quickly as the contrasting blue-yellow skimmer details emerged,  the once spotted shark was never to be seen.

Fungia Rebirth

as posted by: RevHtree of Chattanooga, Tn. in  Reef Central.
For some reason the coral begin to recede and all I could do was pray and hope. I ended up watching it die and turn to a complete skeleton. The wife couldn't believe what had happened and of course she let me know about it. God bless her little heart. I had to think of something fast. I told her that I had read about how plate corals will die and then reproduce sometimes and that maybe, just maybe this was happening.  She didn't buy it, and I really didn't either. But in hopes of something happening a shoved it to the side of the tank out of view.

Of course she gave me a hard time about the ugly skeleton in my closet, errr tank and then to beat it all, my best buddies from the local reef club had a hay day making fun of me and my $500 skeleton. I told them to laugh on and when it reproduced they would have no part. They laughed harder!!

Well after about 3 months in the tank I noticed that there were little algae looking spots starting to form. Of course everybody said it's algae and it ugly. I thought that they may be right, but alas I held out hope!

To my delight the algae spots started getting a little bigger and low and behold a few looked like just maybe that has a teeny tiny mouth!
As a few more weeks went on they started to develop tentacles and start to look like very small plate corals!!

My wife and even my buddies finally got on board and I am happy to say that I am a Father of about 100+ teeny baby plate corals! YEA!!

Moral of the Story:

"Don't throw the skeleton of your dead fungia.  Be patient and wait for the rebirth"

"mmmm okey...  Chinese made,  Japanese design" ....  so, what makes this fixture more interesting??

The LEDS  they are using are American made.  A company BridgeLux and the big "C" (cree).  Moreover,  this fixture will come for both  Fresh Water Aquarium and  SEVEN different model for Reef Tank application.
