DIY: TwinPipe Overflow Pipe

"for tank which are impossible to drill- the only solution is an overflow box...."

One day, you learned that adding a sump to your system do more good than bad. You've made a good read about the sump only to find out that your tank is tempered. So you're only solution is an overflow box--- there are plenty to choose from off the shelves and be prepared to spend a bit. Or if you are fancying making one yourself check some easy&cheap DIY's. Here's one from Melev.

The concept is all the same. SIPHON! it may be made by all acrylic, and/or pipes. Same idea applies.

My version of the overflow pipe was done to accomodate more flow. Having problem of slow drainage, My option was to increase the size of the pipe but having big pipes in my previous Nano Set-up will not only give it an unbalance look but also takes so much space on the real estate. Then the idea hits me: make a twin pipe.

With my experience with the twin pipe, 3/4" (pipe size) it is capabale of handling more than 1000gph. Very reliable and is Auto restart. I would say 99.9% fail-safe. It automatically restart with out problem. Guaranteed!

Hope with this Design, some of you reefer will benefit from my DIY.
you may follow this link with my build: click

here's the list of part needed:

12pcs x 3/4" elbows
2pcs x 3/4" Tee
1pc x 1-1/4" Tee
2pcs x 3/4" end caps(drilled)
2pcs x reducer
1 union valve
1 gate valve

and a picture of the " spy twinpipe overflow"

and here's is the twinpipe on application:

The overflow inside the tank can also be DIY'ed with a big PVC pipe if an acrylic is unattainable as being done by DocHannibal:

Copperband Butterfly Fish now Displayed

After almost two week weeks on the sump, the Copperband is now finally on display.

Upon initial introduction, It went hiding the scape but is very inquisitive with the new sorrounding. Right there and then, it started probing the liverocks picking on fanworms. I've read on many diffirent sites how delicate this fish are. And I'm giving my utmost best for it to thrive.

Anyway, with the fish now swimming on the display, this is now my wife favorite fish after the leopard. She's into this fish elegant look and sexy strutting swimming style.

COCO worm BAILED- OUT!

Follow stories here:

My BC-Blenny is Killing my Coco Worm

COCO- worm reclaiming the CROWN

today: I was up early which is not common to me happening. I went to check the tank with the lights still off. I notice the worm was stretching, thought it was normal.

Just two minutes later, I saw this:

worried that my fish will harm the worm with out it's hard tube protection.. I tried to stick it back to its home... struggled a bit:

It just don't want to get back in. I coaxed it again, then you'll see it crawling out again. I'm not sure what the problem was. So I thought it doesn't want the location and decided the tube in a different location-- same thing. It just don't to go back in.

Finally decided to leave the coco worm out. Catch it and place inside a clear plastice tube and observe;

I saw the worm to be pretty healthy. What baffles me is why it tried to bail-out. Was it because I introduce the Toadstool Coral and it was sitting next to the worm. Never heard of leather nuking a worm....

This afternoon... the worm is disintigrating with reason not known to me. Bye my coco worm.

TANK TOUR: m'akoyPINOY (NTOTM 08/09 of NR)

m'koyPINOY is base in Manhattan area USA. His tank is just awesome. Winning NR's Nano Tank of the Month for the Month of August'09- just proves it.

I was astound though how simple his tank runs. You don't see any overprice gadgets. No- ATO, No- Calcium Reactor, No- Probes, AND not even a sump. The heart of this system is the Aqua C HOB skimmer. And Top-off is done manually as well dosing supplements is done the same way.

m'koyPINOY is known in NR for HIS collection of top-of-the-line / signatured corals. Now that includes the classic TUBS BLUE to the most hype PURPLE HORNETS to TYREES's lineage coral. Strangely, as mentioned he doesn't own fancy equipment to safeguard his sweet collection.

As I enter his place, I was attracted with the bluish lights coming from his tank. Faced with his nano tank--- I stand in awe! The inhabitants are just plain gorgeous. I stand there looking like a child infront of a candy shop. Pointing/ trying to name corals I know: or suppose to know.

Raking my brains, I say.. " that is the purple death..... oh nuclear green. Mmmm I know that. the PURPLE HORNETS" still continuing " tubs, raptors rainbow, kigs hornets, goblins, PE's , papaya clove...... until i said no more". And He continued. " tyrees sunset, ORA's red planet...." and some acans and more chalices!

Damn! that was a lot of GEMS in a small tank. I did not realize staring at his tank that the candy basslet streak past infront of me. HA HA HA HA.. just so so many GEMS to take note.

here's some pix I brought home with me:

some of his acan collections:

papaya clove

Cebu tailspot blenny

Helfrichi firefish
Basslet

WOW GEM rack

HTC HD2 i know you want it!

they reviewed..

Mike Gartenberg:
What does this all mean? Well, despite apologies from Microsoft’s executives, there’s a lot of viability in this platform. Features ranging from Exchange integration to media support and services can appeal to both business users and consumers. That’s important in an age where users have needs in both of those worlds and want to move seamlessly between them, especially when they’re mobile. Second. It’s not about Windows Mobile 7 or whatever Microsoft decides to call the next version of their mobile OS platform. It’s about what vendors are capable of doing with the current OS to create powerful and relevant phones for today’s market. Bottom line? If you’re dismissive of Windows Phones and Windows Mobile 6.5, you’re not looking at the whole picture, and you’re certainly not looking at the HD2.

Engadget
We were frankly blown away with how slick this phone is. Mind you, WM 6.5 still shows its not-so-fresh colors here and there, but the general experience of using the device is handled mainly through the Sense interface, and it blows the hinges off of any other Windows phone experience we’ve had. Ever. From the lag-free gestures which get you around the device, to image pinching and zooming with that aforementioned multitouch, the hesitation-free jumps in and out of applications, and typing on the sprawling, HTC-ified onscreen keyboard, using the HD2 is a joy. There’s no getting around the fact that the phone is still very much anchored to Windows Mobile, but what HTC has done here is nothing short of a revelation. Why Robbie Bach didn’t bring this up on stage today at Microsoft’s open house event is anyone’s guess — though we have to imagine that when your OS is this heavily gutted (HTC has even completely removed stock apps like calendar and contacts and replaced them with its own versions, and the company had to hand-roll the capacitive / multitouch interfacing), it might not be the best example of what you’ve done.

SlashGear:

A bigger display means that the on-screen QWERTY can be larger, and in fact the keys are significantly bigger than any portrait-orientation hardware keyboard smartphone we’ve played with. The same clever auto-correction has been implemented, and – though our typing experience was brief – we found it to be very straightforward to use. Full-screen browsing, using Opera Mobile (since Internet Explorer Mobile doesn’t support multitouch), is a slick revelation, with the speedy Snapdragon processor making for rapid zooming – whether by double-tap or multitouch pinch-zoom – and instantaneous text resizing and reflowing. There’s no pause or delay to wait for jagged images to be rescaled, or half-chopped paragraphs to shuffle onto the screen. The capacitive touchscreen itself is swift and smooth, and has instantly left resistive Windows Phones in the shade.
Wired

The first thing you notice is the enormous 4.3-inch screen, which sits in a slender handset barely bigger than the model it replaces. It makes the iPhone’s 3.5-inch screen look rather measly in comparison, and while it doesn’t match Apple’s uncompromising design aesthetic, it is a handsome phone. The old HD was good-looking in a workmanlike kind of way, but its younger brother has a sharper suit and a better haircut.

It’s also nimbler, faster and more responsive. Instead of the old model’s pressure-sensitive resistive touchscreen, which required a firm tap of the fingernail (or a prod of the stylus), the new phone comes with a sensitive capacitive screen, which responds to a gentle sweep of the finger – and to the multi-touch zoom gestures that Apple made famous. It’s joyfully smooth and fast too, thanks to its 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

Fusigobius neophytus.

Fusigobius neophytus

Family:
Gobiidae - Gobies
Genus: Fusigobius - Hoese & Obika, 1988
Specific name:
neophytus - (Gnther, 1877)
Scientific name: - Fusigobius neophytus (Gnther, 1877

Inhabits tidal reef flats and shallow lagoons , on sand or rubble patches. Typically found in water with a depth of 0 to -5,153 meters (0 to -16,906 feet)

Nothing much is written about this Goby. I find them interesting with a transparent body which attracts attention when viewing the prodigalcube. Very active goby and full of character. The prodigalcube house two of the gobies and they peacfully live together. Sometimes sharing a burrow and sometimes flaring with each other. I'm not sure if they have paired-up as I can see no physical difference between them.

It like to perch on corals (as seen on the picture on top), as well as perching on the clam. They are always on sight, actively swimming even up to the top during feeding time.

This particular specimen was a gift from a supplier in Sri Lanka during my visit.

Dremel 4000

Dremel 4000

Whether you're sanding, carving, engraving, cutting, polishing, or cleaning, you're going to want the Dremel 4000 ($80-$150). As Dremel's new top-of-the-line model, the 4000 is the company's best rotary tool yet, sporting a variable speed range of 5,000 to 35,000 rotations per minute, compatibility with all Dremel accessories, new motor technology to provide more feel with less effort, electronic feedback control to ensure consistent power, a 360-degree grip zone with pencil-grip nose cap, a separate on/off switch and speed dial, and more.

COCO- worm reclaiming the CROWN

yeap... happy it's growing back!

from this: link

to this:

Chelmon Rostratus

Added a new fish for the prodigal cube. Chelmon Rostratus aka Copperband Butterfly Fish

Been a big fan of Copperband. My second attempt. The first one got hold in Bangkok Airport I bought in Hongkong and a I quick transfer in Bangkok Airport on the way back to Dubai. Custom stopped me saying it is not allowed on board. (Didn't see that happening)

Got this specimen in our local LFS: from their Sri Lanka shipment. I have been delving infos on how to take care of them and I'm quite hesitant since this fish is very delicate and very difficult to start feeding. Luckily, the one I have is now finally feeding on frozen mysis. I'll give him a few more weeks to fatten up in the sump before moving him as the central feature of the prodigal cube.

here's more info on them: liveaquaria.
